March 1-3, 2013. Sturbridge Host Hotel.
As always, our Spring retreat was a huge success. We shared some unforgettable moments, we learned, had fun and enjoyed the company of each other.
On Friday, fellows had a chance to share their childhood memories and explore some guiding principles and fundamental values passed on to them by their parents. Meir Alelov and Danny Shpolyansky led the Kabbalat Shabbat ceremony and after the festive dinner the entire cohort tested their Russian Jewish knowledge in an interactive trivia game led by Irina Dubinina and Victor Vitkin.
On Saturday, fellows had a chance to share their views on the essence of secular Jewish identity and develop their own mission statements, based on personal and Jewish values with Jonah Canner, a guest educator from New York. Later that day, after meeting with Ilia Salita from the Genesis Philanthropy Group for a conversation about recent developments in Russian Jewish communities across the globe, the fellows explored current affairs and discussed most burning issues of the State of Israel with Yana Drozdovsky, a former emissary on behalf of the Jewish Agency to Brooklyn College Hillel and a current student at the Hornstein Program. The day was wrapped by interactive social games, planned by Annie and Julia Livit. The retreat offered fellows the opportunity to learn more about themselves and each other, while exploring meaningful issues and dilemmas of the Russian Jewish experience.
