Undergraduate Fellows Work, Study and Play in Summer 2010
Annie Livit '13
Annie spent part of June in Israel on a Birthright Israel trip. She spent the rest of her summer taking Organic Chemistry I and II with labs. It was certainly a very challenging summer, but Annie managed to have a relaxing time as well, and spent plenty of time with her family and friends at home.
Daniel Shpolyansky '14
Daniel had quite an exciting summer. He was declared the official promoter for his singer-songwriter friend, Matthew Kiss, and has been speaking with many people in the record and music industry who live in New York City. Daniel hopes to bring Matthew Kiss to perform for the Brandeis community.
Diana Aronin '11
Diana interned at Biogen Idec in Cambridge, Mass. She worked in both the Quality Control Bioassay labs and the Quality Control Virology labs.
Eli Tukachinsky '11
Eli helped visualize cellular motor proteins under the supervision of Dr. Nicastro of Brandeis University's electron-microscopy lab by analyzing photos through imaging software; Eli has created 3D models of flagella in order to study their structure and mechanics.
Esther Tandetnik '13
Esther taught swim lessons and served as a lifeguard at the summer camp of the Worcester Jewish Community Center (JCC). She is also an Assistant Coach of the Swim Team at the JCC.
Freddy Rozenshteyn '13
Freddy worked as a tennis instructor at a Jewish day camp, teaching children between eight and fourteen years old. Along with this, he traveled a lot, taking a cruise to the Caribbean for a week and also going on a sightseeing adventure through Ireland.
Helen Shapiro '11
Helen worked at Shire HGT and had quite the adventurous summer. She attempted to cook different cuisines while exploring eclectic areas of Boston to gather the ingredients, discovering new areas and new recipes along the way.
Julia Livit '13
Julia imbarked in June on a trip to Israel with Birthright Israel and had an amazing time. After she returned from Israel, Julia tackled Organic Chemistry I and II and passed them both. All things aside though, Julia dedicated much of her summer to reconnecting with her parents, whom she missed all of last year while studying at Brandeis.
Julia Rabkin '11
Julia spent the summer studying abroad in Saint Petersburg, Russia through ACTR's Heritage Speakers Program. She spent her time outside of classes admiring and exploring the city, meeting Russians, and sightseeing as much as possible. She also interned part-time at Doctors to Children, a local non-profit aimed at providing medical and social services to children whose lives have been touched by HIV/AIDS.
Lena Vaynberg '13
Lena worked for Torrance Clinical Research gaining insight into how clinical trials are run, along with volunteering at Torrance Memorial Hospital. Moreover, she traveled a lot with her family. She is excited to get back to school early for orientation.
Lev Gorfinkel '13
Lev worked at the summer camp in the Springfield (MA) Jewish Community Center (JCC). He served as a counselor with boys entering first grade in the fall. Lev says his job was extremely fun and he enjoyed working with the awesome kids.
Nera Lerner '12
Nera spent her summer vacation working as an education intern at The Frick Collection in New York City. In this role, she was one of two college students mentoring 12 high school interns, all of whom are conducting research on the 75th Anniversary of The Frick Collection. Nera has been keeping busy conducting her own research and says she plans to return to The Frick Collection during the winter to conduct more research.
Victor Zhivich '13
Victor had a great time on his Birthright trip where he realized his deep connection to Israel. He learned a lot about Jewish history, Orthodox practices and the way Shabbat is celebrated in Israel. Of his trip, Victor said: "It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who is eligible."
Vlad Lukashevsky '11
Vlad interned in New York City at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management and had a great time applying knowledge he gained from coursework at Brandeis. On the weekends he took trips to the beach or visited friends in the area.
