Faculty Research Grants
The Brandeis-Genesis Institute offers grants to established scholars pursuing research on questions of significance to the field of Russian Jewish studies and Russian Jewish experience.
Eligibility and Requirements
The awards are open to applicants irrespective of religion or place of residence. The awards offered by the Brandeis-Genesis Institute will not exceed $2,500 and will cover up to 50% of the total cost of the proposed research project. Should the grant be awarded applicants will be required to provide proof (e.g. additional award letter or a written statement that the balance will be self-funded) of the availability of matching funds to cover the remaining 50% of the cost of the project by May 30, 2014.
The award covers all eligible project related costs, including travel, data collection and processing, translation and work time (not to exceed 25% of the total cost of the project)
The grantees are expected to complete their projects within a maximum of two academic years after receiving the award. Upon completion of the project, award recipients will be expected to submit a report documenting their use of the funds and their research findings.
Selection Criteria
- originality and creativity of the research proposal
- importance and relevance of the proposed project to the field of Russian Jewish studies
- appropriateness of the primary-source collections and institutions in which the applicant proposes to conduct research.
The Brandeis-Genesis Institute research award recipients will be selected by a Committee of Brandeis University faculty members in consultation with the Genesis Philanthropy Group.
Deadline and Proposal Submission Guideline
Proposals should be submitted by December 15, 2013. Proposals submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed. Proposal should be submitted by email bgi@brandeis.edu with Faculty Research Grant in the subject.
Decisions will be announced by March 15, 2014.
