The Department of Anthropology at Brandeis University is a vibrant and active center of research and teaching. We engage in the study of the human condition in all its remarkable diversity and complexity, both in contemporary societies and in the archaeological record.

Our faculty carries out field projects across the world; in Africa, Latin America, East Asia, South Asia, Oceania and the United States. With our commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and advising, our engagement with interdisciplinary scholarship, and our spirit of collegiality and hospitality, this department is a vital part of the intellectual life of the university.

I invite visitors to this site to find out more about us by following links to our graduate and undergraduate programs, profiles of our faculty and students, upcoming colloquia and events, our annual departmental newsletter and our participation in numerous interdisciplinary programs, working groups and area consortia.
