Alysha Bedig(’09) – Department of State, U.S. Embassy, Cairo, Egypt
Alysha spen the summer on the staff of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, Egypt.  She played an integral role in the daily operations of the embassy, while learning how the critical social, political, and economic objectives of U.S. foreign policy are met through diplomatic representation overseas.

Leila was directly involved in the administrative, programming, and educational planning activities of Boston Mobilization, a non-profit organization that has been devoted to empowering grassroots movements for peace and social justice for over thirty years.

Cassidy Dadaos ('09) - MassHealth Board of Hearings, Boston, MA

The Board of Hearings is an independent unit of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; it provides hearings for individuals dissatisfied with MassHealth decisions on service requests to the state’s Medicaid Program. Cassidy will be directly involved in the review process by observing hearings, researching Medicaid statutes, and attending policy meetings.

Garrett Nada(’10) – The American Jewish Committee, Irvine, CA

The American Jewish Committee is devoted to promoting human rights, international affairs, and inter-faith work.  As an intern, Garrett researched faith and ethnic organizations in order to inform AJC’s relationships with them in support of its overall humanitarian mission.

Michael Rubin(’09) – Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA

Michael interned in the Division of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital.  The opportunity provided laboratory experience as well as exposure to applications of sports medicine in the real-world environments of patient care.

Ashley was offered a legal internship at Sanctuary for Families’ Center for Battered Women’s Legal Services division.  She had in-depth exposure to legal research and writing techniques, motion practice, outreach, and advocacy.

Katie Schlussel(’09) – Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY

Katie worked side-by-side with developmental and educational specialists in the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy department at The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.  As an intern she was involved in providing therapeutic activities to young patients and their families.

Rebecca was immersed in the event planning and fundraising aspects of political campaigning as an intern with the Democratic Central Committee.  She saw first-hand how a political party is structured and functions as well as the crucial role that development and events play in campaigns.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s Department of Museum Learning and Public Programs will be the site of Allison’s summer internship.  The internship provides exposure to a world-renowned comprehensive museum and hands-on experience in programs that reach out to and educate the community through the arts.

Summer 2010 deadline is MARCH 15, 2010!

Get hands-on career experience, explore your passions in the summer internship of your choice,  and receive funding to support your work from the Hiatt Career Center!

Hiatt’s World of Work (WOW) program offers financial awards for Brandeis students who wish to pursue summer internships with organizations that may not be able to provide a salary.  By eliminating financial barriers that could preclude students from following their career interests, the WOW program encourages students to use the summer to explore career fields, gain new skills, and experience the World of Work.

The WOW Internship Program is funded in part by the generous support of the Brandeis University Alumni Association.

Do What You Want, Where You Want

Application Details

  1. Secure an internship position.

  2. Obtain a written “Letter of Offer” from the internship organization detailing the 1) the time frame and number of hours, 2) the work that you will be performing, 3) the goals that you and organization have discussed for your internship, and 4) how you will be supervised/mentored during the summer.

  3. Complete the WOW application on Hiatt’s website.

  4. Obtain (2) letters of recommendation.

  5. Bring your resume to Hiatt to have one of our counselors review and approve it.

  6. Request a copy of your academic transcript or download an unofficial version from SAGE.

  7. Submit all application materials as one packet of documents by NOON on March 15, 2010.

Eligibility & Restrictions

  • First years, sophomores, juniors, and seniors graduating in December 2010

  • Applicants must be in good academic and community standing.

  • The internship must take place in the summer.

  • The internship must be unpaid.

  • The internship must be at least 8 weeks in length. 

  • WOW internships must be full time (minimum 200 hours of work, usually 30 to 40 hours per week).
