About the Center

A person's fingers on the pages of a book written in Hebrew.The Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education (MCSJE) is a research center dedicated to advancing the field of Jewish educational scholarship through expansive research on teaching and learning and by convening and catalyzing other scholars and practitioners in the field.

The Center's faculty and community of affiliated scholars conducts research that promotes a deeper understanding of learners and learning in Jewish education. MCSJE also engages and connects established and emerging researchers and practitioners in the field of Jewish education through important programs, events and conferences.

Mission

MCSJE develops and promotes scholars of and scholarship on teaching and learning in Jewish education. Our work inspires Jewish educators and policy makers to think, talk and act more effectively to make a deep and lasting difference in the lives of learners and the vibrancy of the Jewish community.

Staff and Partners

Three Mandel brothersThe Mandel Center is a partnership between the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Foundation and Brandeis University. The Mandel Foundation's mission is to help provide outstanding leadership for the nonprofit world. The Foundation supports leadership education programs in its own institutions and at selected universities and organizations.

Our core research staff consists of faculty members (Sharon Feiman-Nemser, Ziva Hassenfeld, Jonathan Krasner, Jon A. Levisohn, Joseph Reimer and Vardit Ringvald) and a larger community of affiliated scholars. They, along with MCSJE-affiliated scholars from other institutions, lead projects and programs that promote deeper understanding of learners and learning in Jewish education.
