Marcie Abramson


Marcie Abramson is a Lecturer in Education. She teaches ED 105a - Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Mathematics as well as Math 3a, Explorations in Mathematics. She has extensive experience teaching elementary, middle and high school-aged students. She is also the author and co-author of several mathematics books for students in grades 5-8.

Marcie was elected to the Massachusetts Mathematics Teacher Hall of Fame in 2018.

Jennifer Cleary

Jennifer Cleary


Ms. Cleary is a Senior Lecturer in Theater Arts and teaches courses in stage management, public speaking, creative pedagogy, and theatre for social change. She received her Ed.M. in Arts-in-Education from Harvard University and serves as the field supervisor/content instructor for theater arts student teachers at the secondary level. Previously, she has stage-managed professionally with the New Repertory Theatre, Worcester Foothills Theatre, Fredericksburg Theatre Company, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Encompass New Opera Theatre, and Gloucester Stage. She is entering her 15th year of teaching at Brandeis.

Sharon Feiman-Nemser

Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education

Sharon Feiman-Nemser is the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Professor of Jewish Education at Brandeis University with joint appointments in the Education Program and the Near Eastern and Judaism Studies Dept. Sharon teaches practitioner research in the MAT program and the capstone seminar to Ed Studies majors. Her scholarship focuses on teacher education and learning to teach. Since coming to Brandeis in 2001, Sharon founded the Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education and the Delet Program. A former high school English teacher, she is especially interested in what and how teachers learn in and from their practice.

Hitchcock, Coleen

Colleen Hitchcock

Colleen Hitchcock is an Assistant Professor of Ecology in the Biology Department and Environmental Studies program. She teaches EBio33b Citizen Science: Bridging Science, Education, and Advocacy a hybrid course designed to introduce students across disciplines to the practice and application of citizen science. Colleen's education experience includes leading teacher professional development workshops and developing ecological curriculums for K-12 with a focus on urban ecological field experiences and citizen science.

Danielle Igra

Danielle Igra


Danielle Igra is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Education and the Director of Teacher Education. She currently teaches Fundamentals of Teaching, Pedagogy of English, and Reflective Teaching. Her research areas include the Pedagogy of Teacher Education and the Teaching of English Language Arts. Before coming to Brandeis, Danielle worked at Stanford University, where she also earned a PhD in teacher education, an MA in English, and an MA in teaching. Danielle taught high school English for 9 years in public schools and has taught in graduate programs in secondary, elementary, and early childhood education. As a teacher development and research consultant she has worked in the fields of: literacy, large scale assessment, higher education, and Jewish education.

Aja Jackson

Aja Jackson


Aja Jackson currently teaches the Foundations in Education course for the public elementary MAT program. She received a Bachelor degree in Sociology from Simmons College and later studied at Harvard University in the Graduate School of Education. She obtained her teaching certification through the Urban Teachers Program at Wheelock College. After over a decade of educating Boston Public Schools students, she became more interested in school leadership and has a principal licensure from the Center for Collaborative Education/Northeastern University. Aja currently works with Social Science teachers as a District K-8 Instructional Coach. Her interests include new teacher development, authentic assessment, and multicultural curriculum rooted in Social Justice.

Rebecca Katsh-Singer

Rebecca Katsh-Singer is a lecturer in education in the MAT program and teaches the summer pedagogy course for prospective secondary science teachers. Rebecca has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College and has consulted for schools, districts, and research organizations about effective science teaching and learning. Rebecca began her career as a middle school science teacher and is currently the district science coordinator for the Westborough Public Schools in Westborough, MA. 

Jonathan Krasner

Jonathan Krasner is the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Associate Professor on Jewish Education Research at Brandeis University. He is the author of The Benderly Boys and American Jewish Education (Brandeis University Press, 2011), which won the 2011 National Jewish Book Award in American Jewish Studies. He is currently co-authoring a book about Hebrew in American Jewish summer camps. Jonathan received his Ph.D. in American Jewish Studies at Brandeis. He has a Master's in Education from Harvard University Graduate School of Education.

Marya Levenson


Marya R. Levenson is Professor of the Practice in Education and the Harry S. Levitan Director of the Brandeis Education Program. She was a teacher in the Boston Public Schools, principal of Newton North High School, and superintendent of the North Colonie Schools. Prof. Levenson is the author of Pathways to Teacher Leadership: Emerging Models, Changing Roles.

Jon A. Levisohn


Jon A. Levisohn is Associate Professor and the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Chair of Jewish Educational Thought in the Department of Near Eastern & Judaic Studies at Brandeis. He also serves as Director of the Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel Center for Studies in Jewish Education. He has taught in middle school and has worked with educators in multiple settings.

Katherine Lobo

Katherine Lobo


Katherine Lobo, who is an ESL teacher at Newton South High School, is a Lecturer in Education. She currently teaches ED 175a - The Teaching of English Language Learners: Pre-K to 12. She is an experienced teacher and an accomplished artist.


Orah Minder


Orah Minder graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a degree in English and religion. She completed a Masters of teaching at Lesley University in 2007. She went on to teach at a Boston-area Jewish day school where she taught middle school English. While teaching, Orah completed a Masters of English at Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf School of English. Orah is currently a doctoral fellow in Jewish Education at Brandeis University; her research focuses on the teaching and learning of Jewish literature to and by Jewish students.

Caitlin Moore

Caitlin Moore


Caitlin Moore received her masters from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and her bachelor's degree from Bowdoin College. A former social studies teacher and school administrator, she is currently the Education Director at the United Nations Association of Greater Boston. She is teaching part of ED 101a, "Elementary School Teaching: Literacy, Social Studies, and Other Topics," in the Fall, and ED 263b "Reflective Teaching."

deborah moriarty

Deborah Moriarty


Deborah Moriarty is a Lecturer in Education. She teaches ED 107a, Teaching and Learning Reading in Elementary Schools. She co-teaches Ed 101a, Elementary School Curriculum and Teaching: Literacy, Social Studies, and Other Topics in which she focuses content on literacy skills, strategies and techniques. Deborah has taught elementary school for 12 years, 10 of those in first grade.

Joseph Reimer


Professor Joseph Reimer has been at Brandeis since 1986 where he has been director of the Hornstein Program and the Institute for Informal Jewish Education. Trained as a developmental psychologist at Harvard, he has written several books and many articles on moral education, kibbutz education and Jewish education. He is considered by many as a leading expert on experiential  Jewish education.

Juan Gabriel Sanchez


Juan Gabriel Sanchez is a Lecturer in Education. He co-teaches ED 264a, Foundations of Education, a course taken during the first summer of the Public Elementary and Delet Concentration of the MAT. Juan is currently a doctoral student in Curriculum & Instruction. He also has several years of experience teaching and developing curriculum.


Rachel Kramer Theodorou


Rachel Kramer Theodorou is the Faculty Leader for the Brandeis Education Program’s Elementary Concentration.  She teaches ED 100a, ED 111e/263b, ED 175 and selected mini-courses in ED 101b.  She was a classroom and English as a Second Language teacher for eighteen years in both public and private elementary schools in New York City and Massachusetts.  Rachel is also a certified trainer for the WIDA consortium in training teachers to work with English Language Learners.  She has her M. Ed. from Bank Street College of Education.  Rachel’s first book and blog is Heart of the Matter:  The Role of Attitude in Teaching which proposes a new perspective on teaching and learning that explores a multi-dimensional view of the student and subject matter.

Shanee Wangia

Shaneé Washington-Wangia

Shaneé Washington-Wangia is a lecturer in Education with over 14 years of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher and three years of experience as a postsecondary instructor. She currently teaches Teacher Research in the MAT program and has also taught Critical Perspectives in Urban Education at Brandeis. Shaneé is also a Ph.D. candidate and teaching fellow in the Lynch School of Education (LSOE) at Boston College. Her research interests include family-school-community engagement in Indigenous contexts and the preparation of teachers and administrators for schools serving culturally and linguistically diverse students. Shaneé is a recipient of the 2018 Donald J. White Teaching Excellence Award and the LSOE Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year.

Derron Wallace

Derron Wallace


Derron is an Assistant Professor in Education and Sociology. He is also affiliated with the African and Afro-American Studies Department. He is a sociologist of education whose research interests include global perspectives on urban education, comparative and international education, Black ethnic relations, and disability studies. He recently received his PhD from the University of Cambridge, where he was a Marshall and Gates Cambridge Scholar. Previously, he worked as a community organizer and consultant with Local Educational Authorities in London. Derron currently teaches ED 170a, Critical Perspectives in Urban Education.


Annie Grover


Annie Grover is the Assistant Director for Field Experience in the Teacher Education Program. She works in partnership with Interns and area urban and suburban schools. She is a graduate of Middlebury's Bread Loaf School of English where she received an MA in English. Annie taught in Massachusetts urban public schools for 9 years where she developed programs for increased student agency with a focus on social justice.

Eileen Kell is the Senior Department Coordinator for the Education Program.  She has taught middle school English Language Arts and drama in both public and independent schools.
