Brandeis Alum Drew Weissman Wins Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
Drew Weissman, an alumnus of the Brandeis Biochemistry department, was awarded the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine "for his leading-edge research on the modification of nucleic acids for RNA therapeutics,"work which proved to be integral in the development of the Moderna and Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines.
Weissman is the second Nobel laureate to come from the Brandeis Biochemistry department. Rod MacKinnon (Biochem 1978) received the Nobel in Chemistry in 2003.
