Anti-Racism Education

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is dedicated to providing robust, thoughtful, and informed educational opportunities around issues of bias, prejudice, and marginalization. Our current moment, and our placement in an educational institution, leads us to believe that creating and delivering high-quality anti-racism education is very important for the Brandeis community. Because different people, communities, and units have differing needs, we have several avenues for engagement. These educational opportunities are voluntary and open to all undergraduate and graduate students:

A brief, introductory workshop on the history and context of racism, particularly the distinction between “interpersonal” racism and broader, systemic forms of racism.
- “Looking Inward” Dialogues around Race
- “BIPOC Experience” Dialogues: Open to all students, these dialogues focus on the lived and diverse experiences of Asian, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and Middle Eastern populations through the lens of racialized disadvantage in engaging anti-racist practices and topics.
- “White Experience” Dialogues: Open to all students, these dialogues focus on the lived and diverse experiences of White populations through the lens of racialized advantage in engaging anti-racist practices and topics.
- “Looking Outward” Cross-Race Dialogues: Open to all students, these dialogues provide opportunities for cross-race engagement on anti-racist practices and topics.
A workshop to introduce participants to the ever-changing terms associated with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion that informs the work of ODEI.
Training on how to engage in challenging interpersonal encounters using a basic, three-step approach.
Voices for Change will be an online column where dialogue participants can share their experiences and insights engaging anti-racism work. To submit a post in Voices for Change, you must have participated in an ODEI dialogue experience.
