Application Fee and Fee Waiver Eligibility
A $75 application fee is required of all applicants who apply online unless they are eligible for an application fee waiver. Applicants are prompted to pay via credit card or electronic check immediately after submitting their application. Applicants are told that their application will not be reviewed by the graduate admission committee until their fee has been received and processed. Departments should not review applicants who have a status of ‘awaiting payment’ in Slate.
Applicants are eligible for application fee waivers under the following circumstances:
1. Brandeis Affiliation: Current Brandeis students and alums are not required to pay an application fee. This includes students and alums of any Brandeis school (undergraduate and graduate). Students can select their Brandeis affiliation on the application and that information is confirmed upon submission.
2. Organizations: If an applicant is affiliated with one of the organizations listed on the GSAS website their application fee will be waived. Applicants can indicate their affiliation in a designated area on the application.
3. Code from a Marketing/Recruitment Initiative: Applicants may receive an application fee waiver code from attending a conference, a recruitment fair, or a marketing email campaign. Applicants are instructed to enter their code in the application prior to submitting.
4. Financial need: If an applicant inquires about a fee waiver due to financial hardship or personal reasons they should be instructed to contact gsas@brandeis.edu with a paragraph explaining their extenuating circumstances. Fee waivers are approved on a case-by-case basis and not all fee waiver requests are granted. Departments should not try to individually assess financial need or use fee waiver codes given to them for specific recruitment initiatives for this situation.
Applicants can be awarded an application fee waiver prior to submitting their application. A fee waiver can also be applied if the applicant submitted, but has not paid their fee. GSAS will not reimburse application fees to retroactively apply a fee waiver due to the fees associated with processing the application fee payment and with refunding payments.
