The following ensures that all applicants to GSAS programs are reviewed in consistent ways within single Departments / Programs and allows adequate time for on-boarding.

Overall

All students a Department/Program asks GSAS to admit must be reviewed in a consistent way by the Department/Program’s Admissions Committee each year. Requests to GSAS must come following review by the Department’s Admissions Committee.

PhD Offers of Admission

Departments seeking to extend PhD admission offers beyond the initial number of offers approved by GSAS must follow the instructions in their doctoral support letters and email GSAS staff for approval prior to submitting additional offers of admission. The latest a department can submit a recommendation for admission is May 1, for beginning the program in the fall semester of the same year. Admission offers to international students should be made earlier to ensure sufficient time for visa acquisition. The May 1 application deadline may be extended in exceptional cases for admission to the spring semester of the following year, as for instance when a PhD student is transferring as part of a new faculty hire. Inquiries about any possible exceptions should be directed to the graduate admissions team.

Masters and Post-baccalaureate/Non-Degree Offers of Admission

The latest a department can submit a recommendation for spring admission is December 15. The latest a department can submit a recommendation for fall admission is July 1. Admission offers to international students should be made earlier to ensure sufficient time for visa acquisition.
