Requirements for the Minor
Five semester courses are required to complete a minor in linguistics:
-
LING 100 Introduction to Linguistics
-
LING 120 Syntactic Theory
-
LING 110 Phonological Theory
-
LING 130 Formal Semantics: Truth, Meaning and Language
-
LING 140 Architecture of Conversation: Discourse and Pragmatics
These include linguistics courses not used as core courses, or others chosen from among those listed in the University Bulletin under Linguistics.
A student may count no more than one elective course from another single department toward the fulfillment of the minor in linguistics. This means that both electives can be LING courses, or the two electives could involve one Philosophy course and one Anthropology course. But the two electives could not both be Philosophy courses.
