Pedagogy Lunch Workshops
All Brandeis graduate students are invited to our monthly pedagogy workshops, which are hosted by the Office of Graduate Student Affairs and led by the Center for Teaching and Learning.
Each Graduate Student Pedagogy Lunch and Learn Workshop will be held from 12:30 - 2pm, with lunch provided.

What does it mean to foster learning environments that are equitable and inclusive, promoting all of our students to succeed and thrive? In this workshop, we will discuss several strategies for teaching equitably and inclusively and for helping students feel like they belong in our classrooms. We will also address several challenges that can prevent classrooms from feeling inclusive and consider solutions.

Research has shown that active learning significantly improves student learning, but how can we best incorporate it into our classes? In this workshop, we will discuss a variety of easy-to-implement active learning techniques from a variety of disciplines, and discuss how to apply some recent research about what makes active learning work best and how to get student buy-in.

How can we design courses to emphasize student learning? How can we design courses that transparently convey to students why we're teaching the course and what we hope that our students get out of taking the course? In this workshop, we'll discuss how to make courses and assignments authentic, engaging and meaningful, while providing students the scaffolding, guidance, and feedback necessary for student learning and success.

How does learning occur? What distinguishes novices from experts? In this workshop, we'll discuss some of the principles developed by cognitive psychologists describing what it means to learn, and consider how to approach them to our courses.
