Southbridge 2014

Undergraduate fellows met at an opening weekend seminar in Southbridge, MA

Undergraduate BGI fellows gathered for an opening event of the fellowship's new year. Lily Shrayfer, a new member of the undergraduate fellowship, reflects on her experience: "The event served as an introduction between first and second-year undergraduate fellows, which is amazing, considering that by the end, we felt like we had known each other for much longer. Between sharing experiences growing up in Russian-speaking households, full on debates on what it means to identify as Jewish, and lots of tea and food in between(!), we bonded a great deal in just these two days. This retreat paved the way for a year of education on Russian-Jewish history and was, for some students, the first step toward being an active member of the Jewish community. We figured out that while we do have a great deal in common (wearing tapochki at home and watching our grandparents cross dress for New Year celebrations), we also have differences that we are only more eager to understand in our time together in the BGI family."
