Romance Studies

Message from the Chair of the Department

Welcome to the website of the Department of Romance Studies (ROMS). We provide majors and minors in French and Francophone, Hispanic, and Italian areas.
All of our programs share an emphasis on language skills as the foundation for the study of cultures in several countries and continents. Our students also participate in several programs, including Medieval Studies, History of Ideas, European Cultural Studies (ECS), Film Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Religious Studies, USEM, and of course Comparative Literature. We take pride in the diversity of our faculty and the global and local community building orientation of our academic programs.
