How do I apply to a JBS program?

Students will apply through an on-line application which will include some demographic information, a resume, an application statement, a faculty recommendation, an informal interview, and possible supplementary information to be determined by the specific JBS program.

What is the application deadline for summer and fall JBS programs?

  • March 1, 2014 - priority deadline
  • March 15, 2014 - final deadline

Applications must be submitted on-line by NOON on the stated deadline.

Applications are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis until the closing deadline.

Should I apply much before the admissions deadline?

Students are encouraged to apply well before the admissions deadline. Qualified applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis so applying early is to everyone's advantage. Provided spaces are still available, applications will be reviewed up until the deadline of March 15. The JBS website will contain information in the event that a particular summer JBS program reaches student capacity before the admissions deadline.

What criteria will be used to approve/reject JBS program applications?

The admissions committee strives to accept students who will be the best possible match for the program. Students must be in good academic standing and meet the necessary pre-requisites outlined by the specific JBS program. Students will be evaluated on the quality of their application and should demonstrate their motivation and commitment. Some JBS programs might have additional criteria which will be outlined on their specific program page on the JBS website.

How competitive is the application process for the JBS program?

Some, but not all, JBS programs have pre-requisites. The number of applications and how well an applicant meets the eligibility requirements for a specific program will determine how competitive it is. Students may also indicate and rank their interests in more than one JBS program.

When will I be notified if I have been accepted into a JBS program?

The application will be read by the JBS admissions committee within 2 weeks of receipt of the complete application. The student will receive an admissions decision soon after the application is reviewed.

If I am accepted, by what date do I need to commit to the program?

To hold a spot on the program, students will be required to declare their intent for participation within ten days of acceptance. In some cases, a deposit will be required in order to hold a spot on the program.

How will registration be handled for summer JBS programs?

Once a student has declared their intent to participate he/she will be automatically enrolled.  However, failure to settle any outstanding balance for the summer JBS program will result in an administrative withdrawal.
