How much does the JBS program cost?
- The summer JBS program is projected to cost 75% of the following semester tuition.
- Fall or spring JBS programs will cost the same amount as a regularly enrolled student during the academic year.
For a breakdown of the complete summer JBS program costs, please refer to the JBS Summer 2012 Estimated Cost Sheet. Please note that this information should only be used as a guide and will be updated for the upcoming summer programs.
Students who would like to receive accurate information about their financial aid for the fall are strongly encouraged to submit the financial renewal application as soon as possible. You will only receive your financial aid award letter once you have submitted all of the required financial aid renewal documents for the upcoming academic year.
Is financial aid available for students participating in a summer JBS program?
All sources of financial aid are potentially available. Merit and/or need-based scholarships from Brandeis will be available for the summer JBS program on a pro-rata basis (75% of the semester amount awarded during the academic year). Please be advised that use of a merit scholarship for the summer will count against the total number of semesters of your eligibility for the scholarship.
Federal loans may also be available if you have not already used the maximum amount for which you are eligible for the academic year.
You and your parents may also apply for private student and/or parent loans.
For an estimate of your financial aid and program costs, please schedule an appointment with your financial aid advisor.
Is financial aid available for students participating in the fall JBS program?
All sources of financial aid available during the academic year are also available for the fall JBS programs. Eligibility for need-based scholarship and all federal types of assistance will be based on the current renewal financial aid application materials.
For an estimate of your financial aid and program costs, please schedule an appointment with your financial aid advisor.
Is financial aid available for graduate students participating in a JBS program?
Yes, graduate students on JBS may be able to use their financial aid for the program, but it will count against the total amount of aid received and summer aid will be adjusted to reflect the reduced cost of tuition.
Who do I talk to about financial aid options for the JBS program?
Undergraduate Students
Please meet with a Financial Aid Advisor in the Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) to discuss your estimated cost of attendance and financial aid package for a summer JBS. Call SFS at 781-736-3700 to schedule an appointment.
Graduate Students
Please meet with Peggy Higgins, Associate Dean, Student Academic and Financial Services, to discuss your estimated cost of attendance and financial aid package for a summer JBS. Call 781-736-3410 to schedule an appointment.
Will my merit scholarship be available for a summer JBS program?
Brandeis funded merit scholarships will be available for the summer JBS on a pro-rata basis (75% of the semester amount). Please note that use of a merit scholarship for the summer will count against the total number of semesters of your eligibility for the scholarship.
Can a Posse Scholar or MLK Scholar use their scholarship on a summer JBS?
How will outside scholarships be affected/used for summer JBS programs?
Most outside scholarships are applied in full to the academic year, and therefore, are not available for the summer.
How long do I have to enroll before the bill or registration/enrollment fee is due?
To hold a spot on the program, students will be required to declare their intent for participation within ten days of acceptance. Once a student has declared their intent to participate and completed the required materials he/she will be automatically enrolled. However, failure to settle any outstanding balance for the summer JBS program will result in an administrative withdrawal.
When are bills sent out to students for a summer JBS program?
Bills will be sent out in early May.
When are bills due for a summer JBS program?
The bill is estimated to be due in late May. Further details will be available shortly.
Will the payment plan be available for summer JBS programs?
No. Due to the limited number of weeks in the summer JBS program, the monthly payment plan will not be available.
Does Reduced Senior Status apply to JBS?
Seniors who have completed all graduation requirements by the end of their 7th semester, but wish to remain at Brandeis for an additional semester, may petition to spend an eighth semester at the senior reduced rate. If approved, this program will allow the student to take 1, 2, or 3 courses and pay tuition on a per course basis. Reduced Senior Status can not be applied to a JBS semester. However, students who enroll in JBS may be able to take advantage of reduced senior status in a future semester.
