Introducing Our New Muslim Chaplain
Dear Brandeis Community,
The Office of Spiritual and Religious Life is committed to the spiritual growth of all our students, faculty and staff. Our mission is to ensure that a diversity of beliefs has voice and vitality throughout the University, and we are proud to announce that Muhammad Xhemali has joined the Brandeis Multifaith Chaplaincy as our new Muslim chaplain.
We feel so fortunate to have Muhammad as a member of our community. He comes to Brandeis with experience in university settings, the Worcester Islamic Center, and has a background in prison chaplaincy. He will be at Brandeis 17 hours each week and will use the Muslim prayer space, located in lower Usdan, as his primary office.
Muhammad's responsibilities include leading prayers and giving sermons for Juma'a (every Friday at 1 p.m. in the prayer space), and he will be available to faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students for spiritual counseling. He will also serve as adviser to the Brandeis Muslim Student Association, assisting with programs and educational events.
We encourage you to make time to meet Muhammad now that he is on campus. He is passionate about his tradition and its deep teaching, and loves to share its wisdom.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Elisabeth Stern
