Update on Brandeis University Antiracism Plans

April 16, 2021

Dear Brandeis Community.

Yesterday, Thursday, April 15, all units of the university were asked to submit their near-final draft antiracism plans to their respective dean or vice president. As this deadline approaches, I want to give you some information about next steps, now that we have more clarity about timing:

  • Once the deans and vice presidents turn those plans over to me, I will work with the Office of Marketing and Communications to post these plans online for a period of campus community review and feedback. We anticipate that this will be ready in the second week of May.
  • Once the plans are posted, anyone at Brandeis will be able to provide anonymous, online feedback through Friday, June 11.
  • Following that comment period, we will gather the feedback and give it back to the respective unit supervisor for any additional changes.
  • The goal is to have these numerous antiracism plans in final form and in place by the beginning of the fall semester.

I know that units all across the university have been pouring a great deal of thought, reflection and effort into these plans. I appreciate their work and look forward to seeing and reviewing these plans.

If you have any questions, please contact me directly.

Sincerely,

Mark Brimhall-Vargas
Chief Diversity Officer and
Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
