How We Work
Choosing Priorities
We shape our strategic priorities by listening to women’s and LGBTQ+ voices. We work in collaboration with campus partners and draw on the expertise of our network of national partners. This structure allows us to pursue long-term strategies and to effectively respond to our current reality.
Institution-Wide Reports
A Campus Network
Our director, Julián Cancino, and a part-time staff member oversee the day-to-day work of our office. They also provide support and guidance to our campus partners.
The GSC Pride Reps are peer educators who work on developing and implementing educational experiences for undergraduate students.
Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion
The Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) is an office composed of a network of offices and groups that support Brandeis in the various dimensions of diversity, equity and inclusion. The Gender and Sexuality Center reports to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer.

Our Approach
Cultivating Leadership
Every semester, the Gender and Sexuality Center advocates for positive change at Brandeis by working with campus partners. We engage in direct advocacy to promote inclusive policies at the institutional level. We also offer training for faculty and staff on building gender-inclusive classrooms and campus communities.
Building Community
Our year-long programs enable students to explore, reflect, connect, and grow in an affirming learning environment. Our Pride Reps experience a seminar-style educational program in a small student cohort. Our Student Worker Program enables graduate students to pursue an innovative project each semester. The Pride Reps Program and Student Worker Program are both compensated opportunities.
Affirming Identity
The Gender and Sexuality Center signature events engage the entire campus community in support of women’s and LGBTQ+ voices. The BCC Community Therapy program provides free, confidential mental health services at the center from a certified therapist who specializes in working with LGBTQ+ communities.
Institutional Commitment
As the go-to resource for all matters related to LGBTQ+ life at Brandeis, the Gender and Sexuality Center offers consultation services on inclusive policy development and support to administrators at all levels of the institution.
