An acrylic painting of two luminous figures against a dark backgrounf with a cat's cradle stretched between their hands. Genevieve Cohn, Constellation Construction, 2021, Acrylic on canvas, 48 x 36 in.

In Slant Rhyme, sculpture, painting, video, fiber, and drawing converge to investigate proximity as a network of throughlines. Here, color resounds.

A cat’s cradle stretches between four hands and recurs as a constellation in a richly textured, mathematical painting. Folktales and myths emerge encoded and reclaimed. Stained canvas sacks dangle like meat, then hatch in an animated performance for video.

The artists’ objects adapt, play, and protect. Found and hewn materials transform between hands, modular and whole. Together, the 14 artists engage materiality and myth, gender and labor, intimacy and mutuality, with gaps as significant as correspondences.

A perfect rhyme may answer a question, but a slant rhyme poses new ones.
