Alex Bennewith was named director of government relations for United Spinal, where she will lead the company’s legislative and regulatory efforts. She was formerly senior manager of government affairs for the American Association for Homecare. United Spinal works to improve the quality of life for all Americans with spinal cord injuries and disorders. Eitan Fishbane, Ph.D.’03, wrote “Shadows in Winter: A Memoir of Love and Loss” about the death of his wife, Leah Levitz ’96, who passed away in March 2007 from a brain tumor. At the time of her death, Leah was a graduate student in Jewish history, a mother to a 4-year-old daughter and two months into a new pregnancy. In this deeply evocative memoir, written during the dark time of the first year following Leah’s death, Eitan gives voice to the overwhelming nature of mourning and to the uplifting power of memory. He tells the story of his efforts to be a good father to his grieving child and of his self-discovery as a parent in ways he had not known before.
