“They teach you there's a boundary line to music. But, man, there's no boundary line to art.” (Charlie Parker)

MusicUnitesUS responds to the challenge of being all-online by inviting the artists to create something new for the final performance, the culminating event of the residency week. Mazel Tov Cocktail Party produced a unique green-screen dance party video extravaganza that drew more than 1000 views. For the February residency, Balún will present a new concert film: Punto de Encuentro (created for the MUUS residency) under the renowned Puerto Rican filmmaker and performance artist Gisela Rosario Ramos. For this film, the band will meet in Puerto Rico to record a live show that showcases and brings to the forefront the inspiration behind Prisma Tropical.

MusicUnitesUS is a three-tiered program of Brandeis University that encompasses Intercultural Residencies, Public School Outreach and the Global Currents Concert Series.

The mission of MusicUnitesUS is to further the understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures through music. We believe that music is a common medium that can help to unite diverse cultures in our own neighborhoods and transcend boundaries in the global community.
