Purpose and Charge

The committee is tasked with evaluating Brandeis’ current parking practices and proposing updates that reflect the dynamic needs of our community. This includes addressing the anticipated loss of parking due to upcoming construction projects, most notably the permanent removal of the South Residence Lot and portions of the Theater Lot, as well as opportunities to modernize how parking is managed and allocated.

Why Now?

  • Upcoming Construction: Major projects, including a new residence hall, will permanently eliminate hundreds of parking spaces over the next two years.

  • Evolving Campus Needs: Brandeis is a growing and active campus. Commuting patterns, accessibility expectations, and transportation modes have shifted significantly.

  • Community Feedback: Students, faculty, and staff have expressed concerns about fairness, access, and enforcement under the current system.

  • Sustainability and Efficiency: Modernizing our parking policies allows us to use space more effectively, reduce congestion, and support climate-conscious practices.

Committee Focus Areas

  • Reassignment of underutilized parking lots

  • Temporary adjustments during construction

  • Long-term access planning for students, faculty, staff, and contractors

  • Accessibility and ADA compliance improvements

  • Reserved and 24/7 space eligibility

  • Recommendations on signage, enforcement, and fee structures

How to Get Involved

The committee is committed to transparency and community input. If you have suggestions, questions, or would like to share your parking experience, we welcome your feedback. A campus-wide parking survey is available to ensure your voice is heard.
