Adam B. Jaffe, the Fred C. Hecht Professor in Economics, has served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences since 2003. He has also held the position of chair of the economics department and as chair of the Intellectual Property Policy Committee at Brandeis.
Prior to joining the university in 1993, Jaffe was an assistant and associate professor at Harvard University and a senior staff economist at the President’s Council of Economic Advisers. Jaffe’s research focuses on the economics of innovation. His highly acclaimed book "Innovation and Its Discontents: How Our Broken Patent System is Endangering Innovation and Progress, and What to Do About It," co-authored with Josh Lerner of Harvard Business School, was released in paperback in 2006.
Jaffe earned a Ph.D. in economics at Harvard and an S.M. in technology and policy and an S.B. in chemistry from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
