Am I required to live on campus if I do a summer JBS program?
Students are not required to live on-campus.
Will all students be housed in the same location(s) for the summer JBS programs?
All summer JBS program participants will be housed within Ziv. Other summer programs may be housed in adjacent buildings. For updated information on where students will be housed, visit the Department of Community Living.
Will there be a summer room selection process?
Students will have the option of indicating a room type and roommate preferences on the housing application. Community Living will assign housing in a random order to those who complete the application by the due date of April 20. If students complete the application after the deadline, they will be assigned housing in the order the applications are received as space allows. The application is available on the Department of Community Living Web site at www.brandeis.edu/studentaffairs/dcl/.
If I participate in an Extended JBS program, am I still guaranteed housing in the fall?
Students who participate in an Extended JBS program are required to live off campus in the fall.
If I participate in JBS in the fall or spring, can I live on campus?
Yes, the University housing policies apply.
Should students register for housing in the fall even if they are applying to a fall extension JBS?
Students should indicate their intent to participate in room selection via sage. If you are approved to participate in the JBS fall extension option before room selection occurs, your room selection number will be deactivated. If you are not approved to participate in a JBS fall extension program or decline to participate prior to room selection, you will be issued a general room selection number. If you decline to participate in a fall JBS extension program after room selection, you will be placed on the housing waitlist in the order of your general room selection number.
If you are approved to participate in the JBS fall extension option after room selection occurs, your housing assignment will be canceled. If you are accepted into a JBS in the fall, you will not be charged any penalties for room selection or housing.
If I am applying for a fall extension what should I do about registering for spring housing?
Students should fill out the Spring Housing Request form, available on the Community Living website. Community Living completes assignments usually in late November/early December.
How can I find out about off-campus housing options?
Off-campus housing in the Waltham community surrounding Brandeis is extensive and varied. "Off-campus housing" simply refers to any housing not owned and operated by the University. Off-campus housing includes shared housing, apartments, houses, and rooms for rent.Community Living does not operate as a real estate office or show you specific rental units. However, to help make the work of finding and securing housing easier, the Community Living website has helpful information to answer off-campus housing questions and equip you with resources for your search.
