MELA 2013: Rang- A Mosaic of Color
Saturday, November 16, 6:00 p.m.
Levin Ballroom, Usdan Student Center
Doors open at 5:00pm
Mela, the flagship event of the South Asian Students’ Association, has always been representative of the talent, vivacity, and passion that encompass the eight nations of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
The significance of ‘Mela’ in the classical literary language of Sanskrit means celebration in a gathering of people. Mela aims at exploring the unique and diverse cultures of South Asia, and more so, spreading the message amongst all students. For each one of us, Mela takes a new meaning, whether it is a connection to our heritages, the strengthening of friendships, the collaboration of unique ideas, or the unity within the club.
South Asian nations, in recent years, have confronted endless hardships as a result of natural calamities, political instability, communal disharmony and terrorism. As an organization, SASA represents the spirit of South Asian nations that have stood strong and united in face of these adversities showing resolve to survive. Every fall, the South Asian Students’ Association presents their biggest show, which is extremely popular amongst ICC clubs as well as all students at Brandeis. Over the past years, SASA, through Mela, has highlighted the innate talent, creativity, and passion of Brandeis students, South Asian or not.
Join us this year as the Brandeis South Asian Student Association presents MELA 2013: Rang- A Mosaic of Color.
