Health, Wellness and Life Skills
Academic excellence and personal wellbeing aren't separate goals — at Brandeis, they're interconnected. Health, Wellness and Life Skills equips students with practical tools to stay healthy, stay safe and build the life skills to support them during college and long after.
What's Required
Complete three noncredit, six-week modules. The first, Navigating Health and Safety (HWL 1), is required in your first semester.
Students may then choose two additional modules from any of the HWL offerings.
What Students Develop
HWL modules span three areas, each focused on a different dimension of personal development:
- Navigating Health and Safety: Strategies for staying safe in potentially dangerous situations, including alcohol and drug education, sexual assault prevention, self-defense and first aid.
- Mind and Body Balance: Habits that support a healthy lifestyle, including physical fitness, nutrition, stress management and spiritual wellbeing.
- Life Skills: Practical skills for life beyond the classroom, including financial literacy, career development, CPR, negotiation and environmental stewardship.
