Faculty Service Award

The School of Arts and Sciences Faculty Service Award recognizes outstanding service contributions to departments, programs and the university by members of the School of Arts & Sciences faculty. An awardee is chosen annually to recognize and celebrate exceptional uncompensated service that has benefited the university.

Please detail specific accomplishments and briefly describe how recent contributions have had a positive impact on the university.

Nominator Comments

  • "Sabine has become a recognized leader on the Brandeis campus and beyond with regard to matters of climate change, sustainable development and anti-Semitism in Europe. She is not a traditional scholar, but rather a thoughtful activist, one who is passionate but also, and this is rare I think, able to listen carefully and debate with courtesy."
  • "Sabine helps us (her colleagues, her students, her friends) not lose hope and not feel powerless in the face of the grim mood that conversations about climate change often have. The sense of optimism she brings to these conversations is much, much needed and is contagious."
  • "As head of the Center for German and European Studies, Sabine brings a very wide range and very long list of guest speakers to campus. These speakers help to connect IGS students (and others, of course) to issues they typically only know second-hand. They widen our students’ perspective on Europe considerably and have been invaluable, especially since Russia's invasion of Ukraine."
  • "She inspires the best from all who work with her and is a relentless and optimistic cheerleader to colleagues, students, peers and community members."
