About the Speaker

Doris Metz was born in Bavaria, Germany. She writes and directs documentary films. Prior to this, she was a writer and editor for the Süddeutsche Zeitung in the field of media and politics. After the fall of the Berlin Wall she worked as a reporter for the Süddeutsche Zeitung covering the former GDR. In 2005, she shot a widely acclaimed cinema documentary film – SCHATTENVÄTER (Ghost Fathers) – about Matthias Brandt and Pierre Boom, the sons of Willy Brandt and GDR spy Günter Guillaume. TRANS – I GOT LIFE (co-director Imogen Kimmel), a highly relevant plea for freedom and self-determination of transgender people received 2021 the Audience Award at the Munich Film Festival. PETRA KELLY – ACT NOW! (world premiere at Munich Film Festival 2024) screened at prestigious festivals such as the Festival Internacional De Cine De Morelia, Mexico, DOC NYC, Cork International Film Festival, has reached in German Cinemas over 35,000 viewers since its theatrical release in September 2024. PETRA KELLY - Act Now! won the German Film Award (the LOLA) for Best Documentary Film in 2025.
