Jewish Organizations, Diversity and Social Justice

Undergraduate

Project Information

Dr. Edith Pick, a Postdoctoral Associate at the HBI and the Heller School for Social Policy and Management, is working on a project exploring how Jewish nonprofit organizations in the U.S. and their members conceptualize and discuss diversity and social justice. It examines how gender, ethno-racial, national, religious, and political differences are constructed in Jewish spaces, both officially and unofficially. It examines how these constructions shape the boundaries of Jewish civil society organizations, reflect disagreements, and reveal multiple visions of social justice within the Jewish world. Additionally, it considers how diaspora-homeland relations have re-shaped these discourses since 10/7. The theoretical foundations of the project draw on the writings of Jewish feminist thinkers, as well as other critical theorists who engage with the concept of diversity.

Dr. Pick would like an intern to assist with online data collection (50%), data analysis including both qualitative and mixed methods (25%), and developing a literature review.
