In a fractured and fragmented world, the social sciences at Brandeis University offer a set of skills and perspectives all students need to be engaged citizens and skilled consumers of information. These skills include the ability to really hear other people, to debate and engage across all axes of difference, to evaluate information, to distinguish opinions from arguments, to make strong opinions orally and in writing, to engage with and evaluate quantitative and qualitative data, and to think critically about hard social problems in constantly shifting circumstances.
The Division of Social Sciences includes 19 departments and programs, with many interdisciplinary programs that cross-list courses both within the social sciences and across other sectors in the university, such as the humanities, sciences and arts. Our unit is exemplary in its many courses, programs and experiential learning opportunities devoted to exploring diverse social issues.
