Olivia is a senior from right outside of Portland, Maine. She is majoring in English and minoring in Education Studies. She has been a coordinator for Companions to Elders since her first semester at Brandeis (she transferred here and started at the beginning of her sophomore year!). As president, Olivia oversees all 19 Waltham Group programs in addition to fostering new projects and initiatives. Olivia is passionate about making volunteering more accessible for students of color, listening to community partners first instead of deciding what’s best for them, and creating a welcoming environment for the entire Waltham Group community. Some things Olivia is obsessed with outside of WG: her three younger siblings, being outdoors, and reading.
Kim Ligon is a junior from Long Island New York double majoring in Education Studies & Psychology and minoring in Hispanic Studies. Kim is entering her third semester as a coordinator for Kids Connection, a House 4 Program. Through her roles as the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, Kim will plan volunteer recruitment events with the help of her volunteer representatives. She will also help in planning any volunteer appreciation and recognition events throughout the year. Although this year will be a little different, Kim is really excited to be in this role! She cannot wait to work with, listen to and celebrate all of the Waltham Group Volunteers!
Lhaden Tshering is a sophomore from New York City majoring in Applied Mathematics and Biology. Last spring was her first semester as a coordinator for Teaching Assistants in Public Schools (TAPS) where she helps place Brandeis students into Waltham Public School classrooms where they help teachers by working with students, in groups or one-on-one. As Treasurer, she oversees the Waltham Group budget while working closely with the Student Union President, the Allocations Board, the Waltham Group President and Advisor to make sure that there is available funding for individual Waltham Groups to host events and projects that help achieve their program’s mission. She is also a member of the Quantitative Biology Research Community (QBReC) and works in the Lisman Lab.
Vee Zhu is a junior major in economics and environmental studies from Wuhan, China. Vee joined the Waltham Group since her freshman year and now she serves as the coordinator for Symbiosis. In her free time you can find her cooking in her kitchen and hiking in the mountains. As public relations coordinator, Vee will be in charge of the social media and expand the relationship between Brandeis and Waltham community.
Goldie Hellman is a junior from Saratoga Springs, NY and is majoring in Biology and Health: Science, Society, and Policy with a minor in Anthropology. Goldie serves as a coordinator for Community Connections and volunteers with Prospect Hill Kids’ Clubs. As the community building coordinator, she carries out her passion of strengthening the community of Waltham Group coordinators and fostering a supportive and welcoming environment. Through planning programs and social events for the coordinators she hopes to build stronger relationships between the Waltham Groups as well as within them.
Han is a junior from Amherst, MA majoring in Neuroscience and Biology. He has served with Waltham Group as a coordinator for General Tutoring since freshman year. As house rep, he ensures that the education programs, General Tutoring, Teaching Assistants in Public Schools, Big Siblings, SPECTRUM, and LEAP, in House 2 are represented in trainings during Team Day and MNMs. Han is a member of BEMCo, a Rich Collins Fellow (co-founding the Cornerstone College Advising project), and an avid biker and sailor. Through the Quantitative Biology Research Community (QBReC), he works as an undergraduate researcher with the Van Hooser lab.
Orly Strobel is a senior from Washington, DC majoring in HSSP with a minor in Environmental Studies. Orly as a coordinator for Symbiosis and as a house representative. In her role as house representative, Orly focuses on Community Connections, Habitat for Humanity, Hunger and Homelessness, Service Without Borders, and Symbiosis.
Meredith is a senior from Croton-on-Hudson New York double-majoring in Anthropology and International and Global Studies with a minor in Legal Studies. She serves as a coordinator for Kids Connection, a Waltham Group focused on providing after school enrichment programs to students at YMCA at Stanley Elementary, Waltham Boys and Girls Club, and Prospect Hill Kids’ Club. With the rest of the House Reps, she helps plan Waltham Group Team Day and monthly meetings while supporting the programs in House 4. Meredith specifically focuses on the programs Afternoon Enrichment, Junior Brandeis Achievers, Kids Connection, Language and Cultural Enrichment, and Prospect Hills Kids Club.
