COMPACT is pleased to cosponsor in-person or virtual events that include a community partner, bring community members to campus, and/or advance community engagement in a meaningful way.  Applications are reviewed as they are received and awards (up to $200) are distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

Community Partners: Waltham Boys and Girls Club, Waltham Public Library

Description: In partnership with Waltham Boys and Girls Club and the Waltham Public Library, the Rose Art Museum hosted "A Night at the Museum for Local Teens!" Featuring interactive tours of exhibitions including Leonora Carrington: Dream Weaver, Hugh Hayden: Home Work, and Surrealism(s) – Then & Now  for local youth, following the tours, teens were provided free food, awesome art activities inspired by the exhibitions, and a chance to hang out with friends in a creative space.

Description: Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, and composer Yoni Avi Battat ’13 was in residence during the 2024 Bernstein Festival of the Arts, participating in class visits and community meetings, leading a song circle for Hillel Shabbat and performing a concert open to the Waltham community. Yoni and an eight-piece ensemble performed his album Fragments to a full house at Slosberg Music Center on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

ENVS held a special screening and question & answer session with one of the directors, David Abel.

Description: Professor Rachel Theodorou Kramer and the Brandeis Education Program hosted teacher, scholar and author Jessica Lander and Jackie Herrera, Program Coordinator at the Waltham Family School, in the Rapaporte Treasure Hall. Lander spoke about her recent book, “Making Americans: Stories of Historic Struggles, New Ideas, and Inspiration in Immigrant Education,” what education looks like in a classroom primarily filled with immigrant students and more.

Description: About 50 Brandeis students and faculty took to the streets of New York City to demand an end to the expansion of fossil fuels. The March to End Fossil Fuels, organized by a broad base of NYC grassroots organizations, was the largest climate action since the start of the pandemic; event organizers estimate that 75,000 people were in attendance.
