Common Good Careers
History
The Common Good Careers Cohort program launched in Spring 2022 as an innovative 6-week long cohort experience sponsored by COMPACT, in collaboration with the Hiatt Career Center. Our program offered undergraduate students a collective opportunity to do career development activities.
The overarching goal of this version of the program was to support students in making connections between their community engagement and leadership experiences at Brandeis and their career goals and plans. Over the course of the AY 23 and AY 24 spring semesters, students in our cohorts learned from experienced faculty, staff and an alumni mentor about:
- Utilizing the most effective strategies and platforms for searching for jobs/internships that align with social justice/service commitments;
- Making contact with potential employers;
- Telling the story of engagement/service/leadership in cover letters, resumes and interviews;
- Understanding opportunities across the nonprofit sector, at the local, state and national level; and
- Integrating social justice commitments in jobs outside the nonprofit sector
