Posse Foundation founder Deborah Bial, H’12, was the featured speaker and received an honorary doctorate at the University of Rochester’s 165th Commencement. Bonnie Effros is a professor of history and the Rothman Chair and Director of the Center for the Humanities and the Public Sphere at the University of Florida. In May, she was featured in an American Historical Association (AHA) Spotlight on the blog AHA Today. Bonnie is currently researching the role French military officers played in excavating Roman ruins in North Africa following the conquest of Algiers in 1830. Michael Kivort was one of 14 Brandeis alumni sworn into the U.S. Supreme Court bar in June. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, H’96, offered their greetings to the group. Dirk Laukien is president and founder of Black Forest Ventures/Galaxy FBO, a privately held asset-management firm specializing in commercial real-estate, hospitality, aviation and technology investments. He was a featured speaker at the 33rd Texas Aviation conference. Rob Liflander is managing director for the Northeast region at Circular Energy, a national solar-energy solutions company. He formerly worked at OnForce Solar in New York and Sound Solar Systems in Connecticut.
