Teaching and Learning the Practice of Jewish Education Convening
This convening brought together people engaged in the professional development of Jewish educators to think about and work on the following questions:
- What can the "core practices" movement offer those of us working with aspiring and practicing Jewish educators?
- What are some core practices of Jewish education across different settings?
- How can we help Jewish educators learn to enact those practices in thoughtful ways?
Drawing from a variety of settings, including day schools, religious schools, camps, Hillels and Israel programs, we explored what program leaders want participants in their program to be able to do and how they help participants learn to do that.
Through working groups, demonstrations and presentations, we explored how different programs specify core practices and how they prepare people to enact them, and think deeply about how such professional learning happens.
