Perceptions of Race and Identity in Jewish High Schools

The Perceptions of Race and Identity in Jewish High Schools project explored where and how North American Jewish day school high school seniors learn about race and diversity in school. We conducted a large survey study that focused on students' perceptions of their high school experiences, both in and outside of the classroom, asking students to identify opportunities to talk and learn about race and identity in America. We were interested in students' perceptions. That is, how they understand their own experience rather than trying to directly measure the opportunities actually available in each individual school.

Race in America is a stand-alone issue that can not be confused with, or accomplished through, discussion of broader issues like diversity, equity or inclusion. This study sought to understand whether Jewish high school students feel they have had the chance to talk about race specifically, and, if so, where?
