Joseph ReimerAssociate Professor Emeritus of Jewish Education

Joseph Reimer is Associate Professor Emeritus of Jewish Education at Brandeis University. He served as Director of the Hornstein Program and the Institute for Informal Jewish education and taught in both the Education and Hornstein Programs. He is author of three books: Promoting Moral Growth, Succeeding at Jewish Education and (most recently) Making Shabbat: Celebrating and Learning at American Jewish Summer Camps. He is considered by many as a leading expert on experiential Jewish education.

Professor Joe Reimer was presented with the Bernard Reisman Award for Professional Excellence from the Hornstein Jewish Professional Leadership Program at Brandeis University in May 2026. The Reisman Award is given to a professional who "has demonstrated innovative work and significant leadership … as well as a commitment to the standards of excellence, Jewish commitment and sensitivity to others as reflected by Bernard Reisman in his work."
