Support in Response to Violence March 24, 2021

March 25, 2021

Dear Brandeis Community,

Yesterday we awoke to another tragedy, with 10 people killed at a supermarket yesterday in Boulder, Colorado. This marked the seventh mass shooting in seven days in the U.S., including the murders in Atlanta that targeted women in the Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. While the motives for the shootings may have varied, the violence and loss of life are universally heartbreaking.

As our community and the world continue to struggle with the COVID pandemic, and we are unable to access comfort and community in the ways we are accustomed to, such events can feel even harder to bear than in more typical times. We want you to know that the Center for Spiritual Life remains available to members of our community of all faith traditions, and none, regardless of where you are in the world. We invite you to connect with any of the ongoing opportunities to be part of virtual and in-person spiritual gatherings. You are also welcome to reach out to chaplains in our office individually.

The Brandeis Counseling Center offers individual and group therapy and many workshops students can participate in. Brandeis employees can seek assistance from the Employee Assistance Program. Faculty, staff, and students can also visit the Support at Brandeis website to review the comprehensive list of services available to everyone. All of these resources are available whether you are on campus or off.

Sincerely,

Rabbi Seth Winberg
Director of the Center for Spiritual Life and Senior Jewish Chaplain
