A few examples of outside funding and Brandeis scholarships have been provided below, as well as some web sites which may be helpful. Please also refer to the Study Abroad Resource Library, which contains research books on funding for overseas study.

Scholarships for Brandeis Students:
Brandeis Scholarships for Study Abroad are available for students receiving need-based financial aid. There is also one scholarship for study in China available to any student regardless of their financial aid status. Brandeis in The Hague summer program applicants are not eligible for this scholarship, but need-based financial aid recipients are elible for the Hague program specific grant. Application materials are available online and in our office (Usdan 127). The deadline for Fall 2013, Academic Year 2013-2014, and Spring 2014 is March 1, 2013.
The Crown Center for Middle East Studies offers summer travel and study grants of up to $4,000 for undergraduate and graduate students. Any field of study may be considered but the research must be related to the Middle East. These grants may be used for summer travel/study or for senior thesis research during the academic year. The application deadline is March 29, 2013.
Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS) Institutional Scholarship is available to students on need-based financial aid wishing to study at DIS in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The Ruth Gollan Prize in Hebrew for $900 will be awarded to a student pursuing a program of study in Israel in Hebrew language and/or literature.
National Scholarships
Boren Scholarships, The National Security Education Program (NSEP) Boren Scholarships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to add an important international and language component to their educations. We focus on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study that are critical to U.S. national security, broadly defined, and underrepresented in study abroad. The campus deadline is December 13, 2012 and differs from the national deadline so please click here for more details.
Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan provide assistance to students with travel and living expenses incurred during a semester or year in Japan. The deadline for students who will be studying in Japan in Fall or Academic Year is typically April while the deadline for Spring students is typically October.
BUTEX (British Transatlantic Exchange Association) offers a 500 Pound scholarship to students who have been offered a place as a study abroad student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX. The scholarship deadline for any student abroad a semester or the academic year is generally May.The Department of State's Critical Language Scholarships provide funding for intensive overseas summer study of "critical need" languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Indic (Bangla, Bengali, Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu), Korean, Persian, Russian, and Turkish. The deadline is typically in the Fall.
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) created the Undergraduate Scholarship Program to support undergraduate US students interested in studying, doing research, or completing an internship for a 4-10 month period in Germany during the German academic year. The deadline for the Academic Year is always January 31st.
Foundation for Global Scholars provides four different scholarships for study abroad with varied eligibility requirements. The applications typically open in March but please check the website for more details about deadlines.
The Fund for Education Abroad is committed to increasing the opportunities for dedicated American students to participate in high-quality, rigorous education abroad programs by reducing financial restrictions through the provision of grants and scholarships. Applications are due January 18th, 2013.
Benjamin A. Gilman Undergraduate Scholarships Program provides undergraduate students with limited financial means with up to $5,000 to pursue overseas study. Students who plan to study Critical Need Languages and receive the Gilman Scholarship are also eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program. Application deadlines are typically in March for fall/year/summer students studying abroad and October for Spring students.
The Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowship Program provides underrepresented minority students with the education and training needed to successfully enter, advance and lead in international affairs careers. Students apply to the fellowship as Sophomores and participate in a comprehensive program of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, graduate study, mentoring and career development. In addition to funding other components of the program, the fellowship covers up to one half the cost of one semester abroad. Please visit their web site for application details.
The MASA Grants provide $1000 for Jewish undergraduates studying in Israel. Applications must be sent to MASA at least two months before the start of your program.
The Turkish Coalition of America (TCA) offers up to 100 study abroad scholarships for African American, Hispanic American, and Native American students who choose Turkey as their study abroad destination. TCA scholarships range from $500 to $2,000 per student.
