Dr. Edith Pick, a postdoctoral associate at Brandeis University's Heller School for Social Policy and Management, and the Hadassah-Brandeis Institute, as well as a lecturer in Near Eastern and Judaic Studies and the Hornstein Program, has spent years examining how Jewish identity is understood and politicized within Jewish communal spaces. Her background is in organizational research, with a particular focus on identity and diaspora. Originally from Israel, she completed her Ph.D. at Queen Mary University of London, studying diversity in Jewish organizations.

Brandeis undergraduate student, VoteDeis co-president, and Newman Civic Fellow - Mandy Feuerman '25 - is an upcoming panelist for the National Voter Education Week event being organized by the national organization Campus Compact. According to their website, Newman Civic Fellowships recognize and support students who are "public problem solvers," and "provide students with opportunities to nurture their assets and help them develop strategies for social change."

Sophia Niehaus, a Lecturer in French and Francophone Studies, received an Albertine Cinémathèque Festival Grant from the Albertine Foundation and Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States this past July. The grant will help support a Festival of French Film in Fall '24 at Brandeis, and is funded by Albertine Cinémathèque, a program of Albertine Foundation and Villa Albertine, with support from the Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée, and the Fonds Culturel Franco-Americain SACEM.

The Leventhal Map & Education Center at the Boston Public Library has published research findings by Professor of Anthropology Jonathan Anjaria’s Urban Worlds (Anth 158) undergraduate spring 2024 class. Assisted by Ian Spangler, LMEC’s Assistant Curator of Digital & Participatory Geography, students learned how to georeference Sanborn fire insurance maps and overlay digital contemporary maps in order to reveal patterns and changes to the City of Waltham. The class also utilized Google maps, and site visits within Waltham to explore questions about everything from department stores to parking lots to immigration trends. The published work on Boston Public Library’s website includes five intriguing essays by the Urban Worlds undergraduate students.
