Gift Card Policy

In general, Brandeis funds cannot be used to purchase gift cards. If there is a reason that it is necessary to purchase gift cards (such as to compensate individuals as research subjects) the purchase must be authorized by Procurement prior to being purchased.

To receive authorization email Procurement and Business Services with the dollar amount of the card, the total number of cards (if more than one) and the reason for the purchase. If the transaction is deemed allowable, Procurement will be able to help guide you to the best way to handle the purchase.

Gift cards can never be used to compensate individuals for services provided to the university. These payment are considered taxable and must be reported to the IRS correctly.

Managers looking to recognize excellent performance or valuable contributions made by Brandeis staff members should review the On-the-Spot Rewards Program, to identify if the intended recipient is eligible. Gift cards are not eligible to be purchased outside this program for any faculty, staff or students as recognition of services or as a thank you gift.

If there are any questions, please email Procurement and Business Services.
