Faces of GPS: Meet Thomas Screnci
This week, we're pleased to introduce Thomas Screnci, our new associate director of Admissions and Enrollment, to the Brandeis Online community.
Get to know Tom!
What are some fun facts about you?
I like to be active in my free time. I’ve hiked all of the “New Hampshire 48” 4000-foot mountains, and I most weekends I can be found biking, golfing, at the gym or just doing yardwork.
Can you tell us about your background?
I’ve grown up all around eastern Massachusetts: Lynnfield when I was very young, Duxbuy in elementary school, then Milton and Quincy while in high school. I earned my undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, which is where I currently live with my wife Phanny and our black cat Bellie. As an undergraduate I was quite active in student life, working as a resident advisor, tour guide and orientation leader, which all opened my eyes to the idea of a career supporting students. I decided to pursue a master’s degree in higher education and have enjoyed my time helping students on their academic pathways!
What attracted you to Brandeis Online? What inspired you to work for Brandeis Online?
Brandeis has an inspiring history, being a place where students of all backgrounds and identities have been welcomed to study. This really resonated with me and what motivates me as a professional: to help all students reach their full potential regardless of identities. This background, combined with the University’s high level of research and creative offerings, really spoke to me. As a lifelong learner myself, I was excited to help others in their journey and was inspired by Brandeis Online’s programs aimed at helping students achieve whatever their next step may be.
What are the responsibilities of your role at Brandeis Online?
I am the associate director of Admissions and Enrollment for Brandeis Online, so I work with the leadership team as well as prospective students and corporate partners to enroll students in Brandeis Online programs. I’ll do things like review applications, host information sessions, and attend virtual or in-person events aimed to help students considering continuing their education with Brandeis.
What excites you the most about your new position? What are you most looking forward to?
I’m excited to continue helping students! One of my favorite aspects of my career has been to help students in their educational pursuits, so I’m looking forward to doing this in an online setting, which makes learning more accessible to so many students. And as associate director, I’m excited to help Brandeis Online grow its programs to better serve our students’ needs.
