First-Class Photo-Op: "I was one of 30 students in the first class of Wien Scholars. At the program's inaugural convocation in October 1958, I wore a kimono my mother had made for me to wear in America at special occasions. This photograph is always near my desk, no matter where I live. It reminds me of my great fortune in being able to study at Brandeis." — Wakako Hironaka, MA'64, H'87, Japanese writer and politician Pictured, from left: Lawrence Wien, Brandeis President Abram Sachar, Sen.
