Jewish Learning Through the Cultural Arts Project Leader
Sharon Avni, PhD, is an applied linguist whose research focuses on language ideology, socialization, policy, and discourse in language education. Combining ethnographic fieldwork, sociolinguistic theory, and discourse analysis, Avni’s research primarily examines the field of Hebrew teaching and learning, use, and ideologies in informal and formal contexts in the US. Her work looks at English learners in higher education and her research draws from theoretical constructs in linguistic anthropology, applied linguistics, religious studies, and cultural psychology. She is the Jewish Learning Through the Cultural Arts Project Leader with Laura Yares.
