Laura Yares
Jewish Learning Through the Cultural Arts Project Leader
Laura Yares is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Religious Studies at Michigan State University. Her research and teaching center on Jewish experiences in modernity, with a particular interest in Jewish education. She is the author of Jewish Sunday Schools: Teaching Religion in Nineteenth Century America, published by NYU Press in 2023. With Sharon Avni, she is currently working on Jewish Learning Through the Cultural Arts, a contemporary ethnographic project sponsored by the MCSJE that explores what people learn about Judaism from seeing Jewish themes and characters represented in Jewish cultural arts.
