Department of Philosophy

Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics

Which of the issues facing today's world are you inspired to tackle? No matter the challenge — climate change, housing scarcity, income inequality and more — the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major is designed to give you the theoretical and practical skills to make your mark and make a difference.

The fields combined in this interdisciplinary major are vital to addressing the greatest challenges of our time. Understanding influence and power, ethics and justice, institutional design, and economic forces will enable you to engage with the questions that shape a variety of professional fields. In addition, you will develop critical thinking, analytical, and communication skills that are valued in careers and graduate programs in law, politics, public policy, finance and management.

Students may also consider a major or minor in philosophy, politics, or economics individually, and can take advantage of related options, like the new Quantitative Economics major. Seniors will complete a capstone seminar and research paper for graduation.

Why Brandeis?

Rooted in Brandeis’ commitment to truth, justice, and diverse perspectives, the PPE major offers an interdisciplinary approach that blends philosophy, political science, and economics. Inspired by Justice Louis Brandeis, whose work combined legal and normative reasoning with empirical social research, the program encourages rigorous inquiry and practical thinking. Students can expect to explore how these fields intersect, preparing them for a range of future paths in law, policy and related areas.
