Sprintax Calculus
Effective Spring 2026, Brandeis launched Sprintax Calculus as our new tax determination software for international payees (non-U.S. individuals and entities).
What is Sprintax Calculus?
Sprintax Calculus is an online tax determination software for international payees of Brandeis. It is a secure, web-based system that will classify international individuals and entities for U.S. tax purposes and determine appropriate tax withholding and tax treaty eligibility (if applicable).
The primary function of Sprintax is to determine your U.S. tax residency status and your eligibility for tax treaty benefits. This determination ensures that the correct amount of tax is withheld from your income (like wages, scholarships, or stipends) and that the correct tax reporting forms are generated.
Is this the same as Sprintax Returns?
No. Sprintax Calculus is separate from Sprintax Returns (Tax Preparation), which assists with annual income tax preparation and your tax filing
How do I access Sprintax Calculus?
When you are hired, or if requested, you will receive a Foreign National Questionnaire in Workday. Within a week of responding to the Foreign National Questionnaire, foreign nationals will automatically receive an activation email from Sprintax Calculus. This email will walk you through the account creation process. You should be able to log in to Sprintax Calculus with your Brandeis credentials. Link to job aid?
How do I know the Sprintax Calculus invitation email is legitimate?
The invitation emails will come from BrandeisPayroll@sprintax.com, and the activation link in the emails will be active for 24 hours.
My information was previously collected. Is my information now on Sprintax?
No. If you worked or attended Brandeis before the establishment of Sprintax, you should have received an email detailing the Windstar to Sprintax transfer and inviting you to register. You are required to register for an account and input all the required information into Sprintax as soon as possible. This will ensure that we have the most up to date information for all.
Can I register with Sprintax Calculus without an invite from Brandeis?
No. International payees will receive an invitation email and should register via the link emailed to them from Brandeis (the email will be sent from BrandeisPayroll@sprintax.com) in order to correctly assign their account with Brandeis. Users who already have a Sprintax Calculus account should still use the Brandeis activation link to add Brandeis to their account.
Once I have an account, how do I log in to Sprintax Calculus?
You can log in at any time via the following link: Sprintax Calculus. Link to job aid?
When should I update my Sprintax Calculus Record?
Updates to your immigration status, residency, certain biographical information, organization's name changes, or obtaining a U.S. tax ID can greatly impact accurate tax withholding or reporting to federal and state government agencies. It's important that you act with urgency, and update all payment or tax records at Brandeis within 30 days of when any information has changed (as required by law), which includes Sprintax Calculus.
Examples of required Calculus updates include: extensions to your immigration status, changes in the type of income you or your organization will receive from Brandeis, obtaining a new U.S. tax ID number, changes in your country of residency or permanent address, name changes, etc. If any update within Calculus triggers a change to your tax determination or tax forms, you must also submit updated (and signed) tax forms and any updated immigration documents within Calculus's "Document Exchange" for review and processing by the International Payee Tax Compliance Team.
Important Reminders:
- Brandeis students must also inform the registrar or SFS when receiving new SSNs.
- Please do not delete any historical information within Calculus that you provided in a prior submission.
- To expedite access to any 1042-S tax document Brandeis may issue to you by March 15th, you must consent to receive your 1042s form electronically by indicating “yes” in Calculus by February 1st.
Is there a fee associated with using Sprintax Calculus with Brandeis?
No. Sprintax Calculus registration is free for payees invited by Brandeis. To ensure a free account setup, payees must
- register via the unique activation link sent to their email address; and
- use the same email address that receives the activation link to register in Sprintax Calculus.
If you are prompted to pay a fee in Sprintax Calculus, then you have not used the correct email address. Please contact payroll@brandeis.edu to confirm your email address.
I am an active employee, faculty member, or student at Brandeis and a foreign national. I am not active on Sprintax; what should I do?
If you have not received an email from Payroll regarding your Sprintax account, please contact payroll@brandeis.edu.
What tax form does Sprintax Calculus generate?
Sprintax Calculus generates a 1042-S for all foreign nationals with a signed tax treaty on compensation, non-qualified fellowship stipend, or receives taxable scholarship, award, or funding through Student Financial Services.
