Box is a secure, cloud-based storage service available to all faculty, staff, and students using your Brandeis credentials. While Google Drive is also available, Box is the recommended choice for storing sensitive or confidential data (such as FERPA-protected information).

👥 Sharing & Permissions
When you share a folder, you can choose exactly what others can do. Here is a quick guide to the permission levels:
| Role | What they can do |
| Co-owner | Everything the owner can do, including managing security. |
| Editor | View, download, and edit files (cannot change security). |
| Viewer Uploader | View, download, comment, and add new files. |
| Previewer Uploader | View and comment on files; cannot download them. |
| Viewer | View, download, and comment. |
| Previewer | View files in the browser and comment only. |
| Uploader | Add files to a folder, but cannot see what’s already there. |
🔒 File Ownership & Leaving Brandeis

You Own Your Files: You are the owner of anything you create or upload.

Departing the University: If you leave Brandeis, you must transfer ownership of important files to a colleague or supervisor before you go. You can follow these instructions to assign the ownership of your files and folders to another individual.

Accessing Files from Former Employees: If a file owner has already left the university, you must contact the IT Security Office to request a file transfer in accordance with Brandeis policy. If you have access to a shared folder already and have the appropriate security permissions, you can download files from shared folders.
